scoutie girl preview :: success
this week's contribution to scoutie girl was a little different than usual. this week, all the contributors wrote a post about their definition of success. it was very interesting to me to see the differences (and similarities) in all of our posts. i highly urge you to check out this scoutie girl post which has links to each of the individual posts this week. if you don't have time to read them all, but would like to see what i had to say, my post can be found right here.

family friday :: his future's so bright
the baby was looking out the window the other day watching, and waiting, for the little dude's school bus. the sun happened to be in a position where it was shining right in his eyes as he watched. it infuriated him and he insisted on going to get the little dude's sun glasses. he thought he was pretty hot stuff so he asked me to take his picture. he then went back to watching out the window for the bus. in his sun glasses. inside the house.

thrifted :: 4 qt jar
i got this lovely beauty from my grandparent's auction this past fall/winter. i love the "4 qt" label on the front. it's just such a beautiful form. the cute little mini bowling pin was found at the estate sale that the little dude and i visited last friday. he picked it out just for me. it was featured earlier this week as a photo of the day.

that's what he said wednesday :: lover
i posted on twitter and facebook yesterday about this, so many of you may have heard it already, but it's funny enough to post again. (and if you haven't heard it, maybe you should follow me on twitter and facebook so you don't miss out on any of the other antics i post about the kiddos!)
yesterday the baby and i were sitting on the couch watching cartoons and out of nowhere he turns to me and exclaims: "i'm a lover in my bed."

marzipan monday :: more help for haiti
if you read my blog regularly, you already know about my fresh snapped photos mission to help the orphans of haiti. (which runs until february 14th) 100% of profits made from our etsy shop will be donated to hope for haiti's children (don't forget: as our gift to you for supporting the cause, we'll throw in a free 5x7 of your choice! just leave the name of your favorite print in the comments at checkout and we'll make sure to add it to your order!)
in order to raise as much money as possible, i'm starting another mission through my marzipan inc. retail site. here's the scoop. 100% of profits from any nostalgic notecard sets sold between today (january 25, 2010) and february 14th will also be donated to hope for haiti's children. not interested in notecards? no problem! 50% of profits for any other products on the site will also be donated through february 14th.

family friday (a day late) :: double lucky
the little dude had friday off of school so i made some special plans to spend some one on one time together. just me and the little dude. we started of by going out to lunch (which the baby came with). we dropped the baby off at home for a nap with a babysitter and then went ice skating for the very first time.
it was much more difficult than i anticipated. it was like trying to hold onto gumby on ice skates! by the end though, he was doing fairly well and attempted a few steps here and there without holding onto my hand. the pride on his face in this photo just kills me. it's one of those things that melts a mama's heart....when their child is proud of something they did.
after skating we went to warm up at the best bakery in town with a shared cup of hot cocoa. it's actually owned by my grandfather's sister's family so they know us well. of course, the little dude was offered a m&m cookie which he immediately gobbled up.
he was so cute sitting in front of the window with the sun shining in that i couldn't stop taking pictures. we had a lovely chat about skating and what was yet to come on our date.
the rest of our day consisted of going to an estate sale where the had the best time rummaging through everything.
after finishing his hot chocolate he collapsed back in his chair as if he was in a drunken stupor. it was one of the best afternoons i've ever had. he expressed to me how he was double lucky because of all the special things he got to do that day. after listing off all the things he got to do, and eat, he decided it was more like quadruple lucky! i completely agree!

7 random things
i was tagged by the lovely katrina over at pugly pixel. i've been a fan of her blog for quite some time and we've become comment friends on each other's blog along the way.
i'm horrible at these things because i can never think of anything interesting about myself, but here we go. 7 random things about me.
- i've only had stitches once in my life. my brother hit me in the ear with a golf club while trying to pretend to chop down a tree in our yard. i got a little too close. my family called me "spock" for awhile since it was on the top of my ear and was a little pointy.
- i've never broken a bone.
- i have many addictions including: jewelry, coats/jackets/hoodies/sweaters, shoes & purses. luckily i don't need the expensive stuff. i'd rather have 10 inexpensive purses than one expensive one.
- i had both of my boys without an epidural. why? because i have this crazy personality where i need to do things just to prove i can. silly, i know!
- i have horrible, horrible allergies. i'm allergic to anything with fur or feathers, all sorts of environmental things like pollen, ragweed, etc. cats are the worst. my poor kids will never have a real pet. maybe if they're lucky we'll get a turtle someday.
- i'm addicted to the internet and my computer. i can't imagine what would happen if i got an iphone!
- don't get me wrong, i love what i do, but sometimes i secretly wish i could be a stay at home mom who just crafted and made art for fun instead of having the pressure of bringing home the bacon!

thrifted :: jewelry organization
hello, my name is lori and i am an addict. i have always been a fan of jewelry and as of late, my collection has grown out of control. it was always a little much, but since i started collecting vintage jewelry, even i can admit i may have a little problem.
this summer i came across these adorable little molds. i thought they would be perfect to house all of my little gems.
i used them in our bathroom armoire drawers. the bigger ones are perfect for large beaded necklaces, while the smaller ones work well for rings, earrings, and tiny necklaces.
unfortunately these two drawers are full and i still have much, much more jewelry to organize. i've run out of tins as well. hopefully this summer i can find some more goodies to help me organize the rest!

that's what he said wednesday :: matching
the other day i was playing a matching game with the baby. it's actually a memory game, but since he's still a little young for that, we just try to find the pairs and name what's on each card. there's everything from a hand, the sun, cat, dog, etc.
i pick up the next card in line, which happens to be a big eye. just like every time, i ask him, "what's this?"
without hesitation he answers, "an ipod!"
